LET'S BOOST PROGRESS AND PROMOTE EXCELLENCE!

Learn More About Measures R and EE

This fall, voters will have the opportunity to significantly boost progress and promote excellence in PUSD schools by voting YES on Measures R and EE.

These two PUSD measures—the General Obligation Bond Measure and the Parcel Tax Measure—will have an incredibly positive impact on the public schools of Altadena, Pasadena and Sierra Madre, benefiting teachers, staff, students, families and the entire community. Our schools are substantially better than many of us realize
(read more by clicking here). They embody authentic, real-world diversity, giving our students a meaningful advantage for the future, and they send graduates to some of the best colleges and universities in the country. However, like nearly all other school districts in the state, we are facing higher costs, reduced state aid, and shrinking enrollments. Our students, teachers, and families need and deserve our full support.

Building the School District Our Children Deserve

Measures R and EE will secure critical funding for the following:

Measure R

  • Repairing and updating aging buildings and facilities (many of which are well-designed and well-built but decades ago—we owe our students the same commitment to excellence our community leaders gave them last century)

  • Incorporating/accommodating up-to-date technology to support teaching, learning and PUSD operations

  • Updating and better equipping classrooms, and adding new ones where needed

  • Enhancing mental health and special education capacity

  • Creating affordable housing to help retain and attract high quality teachers and staff

  • Installing and upgrading campus security systems

  • Making campuses and facilities cleaner, greener, more sustainable, more climate-appropriate, more appealing and better for teaching and learning

Measure EE

  • Retaining and attracting highly qualified, high-performing teachers

  • Expanding and strengthening STEAM instruction

  • Hiring highly qualified counselors and mental health professionals

  • Enhancing college readiness and career training courses

  • Expanding music, visual and performing arts programs

None of these is not needed or a luxury. All are urgently needed.

Protecting Local Schools from State Intrusion

100% of the funds raised by Measures R and EE will be spent locally and cannot be taken by the State. Many of the projects slated to be funded by these measures will also qualify for matching State funding, bringing additional dollars into our community.

Ensuring Transparency and Accountability

Every dollar spent through Measures R and EE will require full public disclosure and be spent under the oversight of an independent citizens’ committee and a third-party auditor. All funds secured through these measures will be well spent.
